Fire Safety at Fire & Stars
GREEN
Normal fire precautions are in place. Campfires are permitted.
Recent rainfall and cooler weather have improved conditions across the woodland. We have therefore returned to Green status and our normal fire precautions are now in place.
Campfires are permitted in the private Fire & Stars firepit provided with each camping pitch. Please continue to use fires responsibly and follow our standard fire safety rules.
These rules apply whenever campfires are permitted. Fire & Stars staff may introduce tighter restrictions when conditions change.
Only use the private Fire & Stars firepit provided with your pitch. Never move it or create another fire area.
Keep flames controlled and at least 3 metres from tents, trees and overhanging branches.
A responsible adult must remain with the fire at all times. Never leave it unattended.
Have a full bucket of water beside the fire and be ready to extinguish it immediately.
No accelerants, rubbish, plastics, treated timber, batteries or gas canisters.
When finished, and always before sleeping or leaving, add water, stir the ashes and check that everything is completely cold.
Campfires in a living woodland
Campfires are an important part of the Fire & Stars experience, but our pitches sit within a living woodland. Dry ground, wind and prolonged heat can allow a single ember to spread beyond a fire circle. We use a simple traffic-light system so guests can see immediately which rules apply.
How the traffic-light system works
Normal conditions
Campfires are permitted only in the private Fire & Stars firepit provided with each pitch. Disposable barbecues may be used only when the current Green guidance allows it. They must be raised on a heatproof stand and never placed on benches.
High fire risk
Pitch campfires are permitted only under enhanced restrictions. Disposable barbecues are not permitted on pitches, but may be used in the communal area behind reception. Gas camping stoves remain permitted under strict controls.
Extreme fire risk
No campfires or disposable barbecues are permitted on pitches. Gas camping stoves remain permitted under strict controls, and guests may use the controlled communal cooking and fire area behind reception.

Communal fire: Managed communal area only.
Use a purpose-built camping stove outdoors on a stable, level and heatproof surface, well clear of tents, dry grass, leaf litter, trees and other vegetation. A responsible adult must supervise it continuously, with water immediately available. Switch it off as soon as cooking is finished and allow it to cool safely. Never use a gas stove inside a tent.
Green means normal fire precautions, not no fire risk. Our status considers regional wildfire conditions, recent weather and rainfall, forecasts, official guidance and conditions observed within the Fire & Stars woodland. Fire & Stars may change the status whenever conditions require it.
How we assess fire risk
We consider several indicators together. No single forecast or map automatically changes the official Fire & Stars status.
England & Wales Fire Severity Index
We monitor the official Fire Severity Index alongside local weather, recent rainfall and conditions within our own woodland. The index indicates how severe a wildfire could become if one were to start. It does not predict whether a fire will start.
