What is woodland camping?
Your own place amongst the trees
At Fire & Stars, the woodland is not a backdrop. It is the camping experience. Our pitches sit amongst the trees and are deliberately spaced out, with trunks, leaves and woodland growth creating natural separation. You get the feeling of having your own little part of the woods, rather than a place in a row on an open field.
You bring your own tent and make the space yours. Some guests travel light and keep things simple. Others create a comfortable family base with hammocks, tarps and outdoor cooking gear. We also have dedicated campervan pitches and several more secluded options for campers who want to feel properly tucked away.
This is deliberately low-key camping. The facilities are practical, the atmosphere is relaxed and the woodland does most of the work.

Year-round woodland camping
The woods do not close when summer ends
Most people picture camping as a summer activity. We see the woodland differently. Spring birdsong, summer shade, autumn colour and crisp winter nights each create a completely different stay. With the right equipment and preparation, camping among the trees can be brilliant at any time of year.
Spring
Fresh growth, longer days and a woodland full of birdsong. Nights can still be cool, but the woods feel alive with change.
Summer
Long evenings, a full green canopy and plenty of time outside. The trees provide welcome shade on the warmest days.
Autumn
Rich colour, quieter pitches and cooler fireside evenings. A favourite season for campers who enjoy a slower atmosphere.
Winter
Still woods, clear skies and a real sense of escape. Best suited to prepared campers with reliable cold-weather equipment.
Hot-tent camping in winter
Many of our winter guests use hot tents, creating a warm and comfortable base while still enjoying the woodland in its quietest season. Good equipment, experience and safe stove use are essential.

Fire & Stars sits within a living, working woodland. Income from camping supports its ongoing care, habitat improvements and long-term restoration, helping us respond to challenges such as ash dieback while creating a more diverse and resilient woodland for the future.
That relationship matters to us. We want guests to enjoy the woods now while helping make sure they remain healthy, interesting and full of wildlife for generations to come.

Common woodland camping questions
Are you open all year?
Yes. Guests camp here throughout the seasons. Outside summer, bring equipment suitable for the forecast and expected night-time temperatures.
Can I bring a hot tent?
Many experienced guests use hot tents during colder months. You remain responsible for safe equipment and stove use, and all stays are subject to our current fire-safety rules.
Is Fire & Stars family friendly?
Yes. We are a family-friendly campsite with a no-music policy and quiet hours between 10pm and 7:30am.
How far are the pitches from the car park?
It varies. Some are closer to the main facilities, while our most secluded pitches are around a ten-minute walk away. Trolleys are available for your equipment.
Can I bring a campervan?
Yes. We have dedicated woodland campervan pitches. Check the pitch details before booking to make sure your vehicle is suitable.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes, dogs are welcome. Owners remain responsible for keeping them under control and respecting other guests and wildlife.
